Questions From the Body

When have you last said

you loved me?

Discarded memories of childhood.

Still young.

Still naïve.

With perfect hair and horrid teeth.

What have you said since then?

Worthless.

Failure.

Useless.

Ugly.

          Idiot.

A Nobody.

But, never once an uttered “I love you”

How was it you last said

you loved me?

Things have changed in recent years.

Now older.

Now bitter.

With horrid hair and perfect teeth.

What can you say to me now?

Hormonal.

Trying.

            Changing.

Growing.

Abusing.

More Beast than Person.

I didn’t know your passion could hurt.

Can you one day learn to say

you love me?

Smile in the mirror with me smiling back.

Soon wiser.

Soon kinder.

With our perfect hair and our perfect teeth.

Can we practice for the future?

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

“I love us.”
