Questions For My People

We are all people, born or unborn
We are all family, torn or untorn
Who claim to create change, I see none
Who claim to make a difference, I don't see one

Why does my color still define me?
Why does my assorted taste in music surprise thee
Why is it that I am labeled by my own people?
When our ancestors marched for us to be equal

Why does the way that I speak seem so strange
Why am I looked at differently because I don't use slang
Where did this language called "white" come from?
Why is it that when I speak it, I am wrong?

When will my color be unseen?
When will I be able to just be me?
