quicksand

2 am thoughts
are like stepping into quicksand
temping, luring, irresistibly intriguing
yet once you take the first step
it consumes your body
your entire being
all you've ever been is totally engulfed
mocked by defeat
you can't fight the muck
that shocks your body and keeps it idle
these damn thoughts are too powerful
all there's left to do is admit defeat
admit that 2 am thoughts lead to no good
no choice but to let them consume you
entrap you
torment you
kidnap you

drown your soul
until you learn better
until you learn that it's best to sleep
than to tread into the mucky temptations
of 2 am thoughts
