Quiet

In the depths of the quiet

In the pause

In the absolute silence

Is when fire roars in my heart

The flicker is constant

Always there burning

But when I stop and breathe

Is when oxygen fans the flame

And the fire is stirred

And glowing embers become a wildfire

This boiling reaches my head

It crackles and hisses until I can’t take the heat

I open my mouth and the breath of a dragon comes out

My hands glow and light up the darkest of shadows

All because of quiet

A moment of rest from the shattering noise of life

Silent, reverent memories

The sunlight seeping through the window curtains on a Saturday morning

The smell of an empty clean apartment

Standing on the terrace of a skyscraper

Staring into the eyes of a doe

The splash of bath water filled with rose petals

The pitter patter of raindrops against glass

Your feet sinking into sand at the beach

Your hair blowing in the evening breeze as you watch the sun dive past the horizon

These are the moments in which I can inhale the world

And exhale my own expressions

Where the air is clear and so is my mind

The traffic noises fade

The unpaid bills disappear

The pounding headaches dissipate

And time stands still for me

And all I can think is how do I share this with others

How can I make them see the stars

Hear the leaves

Smell the dew

All of the silent souls are amplified for me

What they whisper I hear in booming unity

“Notice us! Notice us!

This is all we have to offer.

Nothing more or less

But this plea for attention”

How could I refuse?

With the flame in my heart building

I create in vain

Attempting to share this beauty

To have others appreciate this sacred silence

But I can do it no justice

And even if i could

Nobody listens to the quiet

Except those with hearts of fire
