Quiet Desperation

Quiet Desperation

To me it seems quite outrageous
To put large animals in small cages
People pay to stare and pry
The poor beasts stare back and ask
‘where am I?’
The lions unsure of his demands,
The dolphins obey all their commands
A bear asks simply ‘where can I go?’
A polar bear laments ‘where is the snow?’
The monkey puzzled by his surroundings
The elephant stands confounded
The cheetah now feeling cursed
Imagine how you would feel
If the roles reversed
