Quiet Night

In the woodland they sat,

Supper plates on their laps,

Faces scorning the silence

That covered their tracks

The patters around them,

Showed footfalls of followers

Life stood around them

Mocking their flock

They wouldn’t have lived

If that silence had failed

All that night long

The travelers stayed still

Their life, long forgotten

Was left to the beasts

The only thought that evening

Was bittersweet
