Quiet Regret

When the time does come With the setting sun As the day comes to an end, We will gather near, And without fear, We will attempt to mend. I look to you, As I always do, For peace and quiet comfort. While holding hands Alone, we stand, Pretending to be unhurt. While time does fly, And days do die, Somehow, through all, we've made it. Through thick and thin, The light and dim, We have become more close-knit. “Friends to the end,” That's what you said, You wore that stupid grin. You'll never know, For I won't show The tears that I held in. We are so close, And yet so far, I stand next to your side, But you are hers, And though it burns, I have to say goodbye.
