Quinceañera

It’s 8am and my mom wakes me up yelling today “Is your big day mija!”

It’s your moment to shine and to prove to people that you are a Señorita now.

We drive to my get my hair and makeup done for the first time since my mother always

said that until I was fifteen I was going to get my makeup done. Because that was a

tradition they had back then growing up in Mexico. Also it was the first time I got

my nails done, all of these things made me realize that I was growing up because those things were things that I could not do and now that I was fifteen, I could do which amazed me. Three hours passed by and my hair and makeup were done when I first saw myself in the mirror I couldn't recognize myself. I asked myself who am I? because I looked so beautiful. We drove home and the photographers where in my house already which scared me as that meant I had to rush, so I helped my mom put all the things such as; my quinceanera dress, my heels, and my jewelry in her bedroom to be videotaped. Then she was helping me get ready when the photographer called my dad so my parents could say some nice words to me in my special day.  I began to cry instantly, I just couldn’t help it because this was the moment I opened my eyes and realized that I was growing up and I was growing my wings already and that one day I will be out of the house I grew up in  and I will be on my own. This moment was very special to me because it made me see life in a different perspective and value my family more as they are the reason why I want to go to college because I want to make them proud.

Furthermore, the vals with my dad approach and we danced and everyone's eyes were on us which was very nerve racking. In this moment I wanted to cry so bad, but I was holding it in because I didn’t want the audience to see me cry. Although, I took a quick turn to see my family and I saw many crying which made me sad because I knew why there were crying . My family was crying because of me and because that is the moment they realized that I was growing up and that I wasn't that little girl anymore who used to run around grandmother's house and that girl who used to play with her muñecas and now I was holding my muñeca in my hands next to my dad saying goodbye to my childhood and saying hello to my adulthood.
