Quondam Lover

The days are gone but memories remain
Our past connections have ceased to exist
And fate do us part, a future is missed
Now known our love will have to be refrained
Your presence is still near, giving me pain.
A new love ever questioned to subsist
How could I accept love to be dismissed
When your existence has since kept me sane?
Yourself equable, I am she to change
My thoughts, my worries, my love for you gone
Adjustments are in need to be arranged
I cannot depend on you as "The One"
And so I say farewell with coming age
Until a willing one will come along.
