Rabbit Hearted Girl

It’s always confused me.

The way you can look at a small seed plastered with dirt and mud,
and find the time to water and encourage it everyday
while only seeing it as the blossoming flower it will one day become.
Still, you can’t seem to discover the same potential within yourself.

It’s always humored me.

The way you dance in front of others even though you know you can’t dance
you’re always the one beckoning the timid spectators to join you
because you’ve never cared about what others think
But you haven’t been dancing much lately.

It’s always scared me.

The thought of you staying up late at night
fearing that the monster from your closet is on the prowl
or that it is already in your bed
or worse of all, that perhaps you have been the monster all along.

I finally understand
That you have the heart of a rabbit
despite the light I’ve always seen you in
just like the next person you have your own insecurities, fears, and anxieties
and I’ve seen the scars to prove it.

 I’m asking you

To obtain the heart of a lion
and develop the courage you need
to look at yourself and see the beautiful flower that’s already in bloom.

I’m telling you

That you are not a monster
but if you need me, I will gladly stand guard by your bedpost with my brightest candle
to scare away whatever demons may be haunting you at night.

And I’m begging you

To just keep dancing for a little while longer.
