The Rabbit Hole

There are many things

That one can’t live without

Air – 3 minutes

Shelter – 3 hours

Water – 3 days.

These are the time limits,

These are the limitations of our bodies,

Fragile in creation.

Made of dust and

Breathe of God.

So what is the thing that

I cannot live

Without?

That is a question

Sometimes better left

Unanswered.

The rabbit hole

Too deep,

Too wide,

Too expansive.

Sometimes the list is

Overwhelming.

Perhaps I would choose

Time

If my body is more

Fragile than dust,

But my spirit and mind

More valuable than

Gold

I would ask for time.

Time for quiet

And solitude.

Time that my mind

Is still

And without anxiety.

Time without worry,

Or shame.

Time to be at peace

Time to understand

The mysteries of the universe

And to unravel string theory.

Time to look at

Count and name the

Stars.

And wonder if Abraham’s

Children really are more

Numerous than that.

Time to praise

And thank

And wonder.

Time to jump

Into the rabbit hole

And come out the

Other side

Less wise

But more understanding.
