The Race of Life

There’s something about the end of our journey

For at the end is always a new beginning.

We’ve come so long, worked so hard,

And here we are standing at the finish line

Where soon enough it will transform

Into the starting line.

For when the end is near

We begin to tear up,

Remembering memories

As if we were looking through a photo book.

Treasuring the people we’ve met,

And every challenge that we faced

That is no longer in our way.

Were moving forward

Growing up

Getting older.

Looking back

I almost want to retract

Because the sad thing about moving forward

Is everything you have to leave behind.

So if it hasn’t caught up to you yet,

Realize it now;

That the end is coming faster

Than you can ever tell.

You decided to go over the speed limit

Zip through it all

Yet now you can’t slow down

And it almost seems

Like your going to crash into a wall.

You rushed through life

Never stopping to admire

The beauty of it all

And now when you decide to slam on the brakes

It’s too late.

You’ve crossed the finish line

First place you have won

But does it even feel so great

When you rushed through it all.

Your heart starts to beat a hundred times faster

For the other cars begin to come,

Slowly yet faster.

Cheers are heard

You are done….

Yet now you wish

You can return to when you where young,

When the cars where pretend

And the race was just a game.

When you though everything would stay the same

And life go your way.

You watch the track change

Finish becomes start

And now the new race has start.

You get ready to push the gas

As far down as it can go

But then you stop

And decide to take it slow.

You wish you did it before

But you learnt too late

Take life slow

It’s not a race.

Don’t go above and beyond just to win

Because then you’ll miss everything;

Cars begin to start,

But you look back

Wondering about

The life you could have had.

You press the gas

And begin to move

Slowly you go through life

No longer a race;

Why be the first one there

When you can go at your own pace.

It’s your life and you choose how to live it

Don’t waste everyday waiting for the finish.

Life’s an adventure

A very long one,

But take it slow

There’s no race to win

When your living it all.
