Rags and Riches

I am from the streets, the town in debt

Every day living, makes my parents pockets sweat.

It seems like we live good, but we're living from check to check

Looking all around to see what bill is coming next.

I'm the creation of immigrants, two languages under my belt.

They teach me that there are no limits to what I have learned and felt.

Sweet smells of spice and sugar fill the air like the sound of a bell

And the symphony of sounds at home when family is here sure is swell.

Going from a town with no G's to one that's got no OG's

Education coming from the white man, street smarts from the minorities.

The greatest unadulterated love from the nation's smallest city

But even all the love in the world can't pay my college needs

From dirt roads to turf fields, kicking around the ball

It doesn't matter what time it is, doesn't matter if it's spring or fall.

When you're playing with your friends, it doesn't matter at all

But when it comes time to crunch time, you've got to give it your all

Coming from what many consider the hood, singing is pretty scarce

Hip hop is all the craze these days, freestyling the greatest force

True vocal talent is going missing, as well as it's writing form

Unique to most of my boys in here, I'm songwriting and singing more

Every event with my family is a full-blown celebration

Embrace my Colombian heritage, el carnaval can't beat our special occasions

We've got each other through thick and thin, that goes without saying

Even mass becomes a party, and our main drug is praying

The Holy weeks are especially sacred to our whole lifestyle

God has given us unlimited blessings - we owe him by the mile

This is everything you need to know about my personal style

of living out the day to day - maybe I'll see you in a little while!
