Railroads
"Railroads" is an original spoken word and song performance from my friend Gail and I. It has given us the chance to reflect on our struggles and triumphs not only as individuals, but also in respect to our own cultures in America. We have been exposed to stereotypes, various types of aggression, and discrimination, but it has only allowed us to further understand our cultures and ourselves. It instills in us a sense of pride for how hard those before us fought for their American Dream and also a sense of inspiration to keep fighting. Adversity shouldn't discourage us, but only force us to work harder so we can pave the way for those after us. As Asian Americans, we have been distanced from our culture, assimilating to the ways of America in order to succeed. It is important that we know where we come from in order to move forward (the railroads that connect yesterday to tomorrow).
