To the rain drops on my window

Dear Rain,

I have been awaiting your return. It has been a long while since I have seen you. Perhaps the frigid temperatures have kept you away while snow forms in your place. I wish you have not been gone so long because I miss you. You always come on the days when I need you the most. On the days when the sun is too bright and the days to short. I know the journey from the sky to the place where I reside is long and lonely. If I could travel up to the clouds where every new droplet is born I would. But my human limitations make such a thing impossible.

Please come back. I miss your trembling thunder that rattles my bones and sends my blood flowing in the opposite direction. I miss the soothing pitter patter that whispers my name against the surface of my bedroom window. Most of all I miss your scent. Before the first drop falls I can smell the Earth preparing to be cleansed by you. Once you are gone the petrichor takes your place and the experience lingers on my skin for just a few more minutees.

Please come back. I know the journey from the sky to the place where I reside is long and lonely. But am I worth the trip? Am I?
