The Rain Remains

The rain remains as painful reminders

Of a love that was once regarded as

Ripe for the picking. The pitter-patter

Of the drops is the pieces of my heart

Crashing from the sky in cascades.

Perhaps at one point, you would have

Cared about the tears that dry on my

Cheeks every night before I lay my head.

Now, you're at her house, holding her

Hand as you once held my heart together.

But it doesn't matter. Of course it doesn't.

Because despite it all, you will

Always be in my veins. You will course

Through me like a voice echoes in a

Cave in the night. You are the wheel

By which I guide the vehicle of my life.

You are the airbag that fails to deploy

In the case of an impact strong enough to

Shake my life up forever. Your

Goodbye was the end credits of a film

An audience wants nothing more than to

Turn into a series, but the lead actor

Dies before starting the next film, so the

Movie is just an empty hole of what was

Before the tragedy, irrevocable as it

Eats itself alive with horrible ratings,

Poor sponsors, and a fleeing audience.

As I am the lone actor, struggling to

Keep the franchise afloat, fighting

Against the raging current called "a

Failing flick." For you, life has gotten

Better as you have left me in the dust,

Your car tires screaming as they fly

Away from me, your past. And yet,

After all the hell I have put myself through

Only to fall down the mountain again and

Again, I still love you. You are still the

Last word my lips whisper before that

Fall silent at night, and the first they

Call out for in the morning before I am

Reminded of all that has vanished before my

Eyes in a deadly whirlpool of loss.

I hope the girl beside you tonight takes

Your hand and holds it close to her,

Her rock in the current I am lost at sea in.

I hope she pulls herself to safety by

Your hand. I hope her past leaves

Her behind, as she loves you just as

I once did, and still do. I want to leave

Your memory in the dust, as you did me with

Her, after you told me that it was over.

I hope you find happiness, yes, while

You're with her. I hope you protect

Her heart, I hope you keep it warm, for

I was the unlucky soul to find out that

Your love for me was not strong enough so

Her fingers could not pierce the fortress

I had built around us. I hope you leave

This life knowing you had two people who

Loved you dearly. One who you loved in

Return, and one who could never let

You go because she was too afraid to

Forget what it was like to be held close,

Like she was a million dollar jewel in a

Pit of thieves. I hope all of this and more

For you, because wishing you false

Hope is like wishing for my own body to

Fail, because you are my blood, my

Organs, my limbs, my mind, my spirit, my

Heart, and my life. Just as it is not

Possible to drain yourself of blood

Without dying, I cannot forget you

Without doing the exact same thing.
