The Rainy Day

Dashing through the kitchen and out the door
Throwing on her shoes, her coat she ignores.
Joyful and happier than a blue jay,
Anticipating to enjoy what to her is a beautiful day.
Dancing up and down with a cheerful heart,
She hopes it stays and never departs
Face up and tongue out, she tastes the cold plops.
Altogether they run down as drip, drip, drop.
Splish splash she jumps in the enormous flood,
Sploosh splat oh no, covers herself with mud!
Simply ignoring the mess she doesn't care,
For her mind is completely elsewhere.
Flinging her arms out, the falling glitter she tries to hold.
"Oh no," she hears her mother loudly yell,
"Come in right now or you'll catch a cold."
"Bummer," the little girl says, "Just when it couldn't get more fun."
Sadly, with a pitiful face, she walks in, for the fun is over and done.
