Random Venting 4: Defining Love
The problem with love is that we all feel it differently.
We have our own definitions of love and how it should be expressed.
So we reject any views of it that are different from our own.
According to Webster’s love is defined as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.”
Placing such a static label on a word like love is insulting and defeats its entire purpose.
Why? Because Love isn’t meant to be defined or thought about.
Love is meant to be felt
Love is meant to be expressed
And if we weren’t so afraid of the unknown we’d be able to recognize that ANY love is good love.
Love comes in innumerable forms.
Mothers love their children.
That’s alright with us.
Siblings love each other.
That’s alright with us.
Adam and Eve love each other.
That’s alright with us.
But if Eve falls in love with Alice, they're both damned.
If Adam falls in love with Evan, they're both abominations before God.
Says who? Says us.
Because what? Because the bible says so.
Whose word is that? God’s.
So it’s not arguable.
And whoever opposes it burns in hell.
So we hate Adam and Evan
And we cast out Eve and Alice.
But wait.
Let’s remain on the subject of the bible for a moment.
The Bible.
God’s Word.
God’s word that says in Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Which means us,
The “Christians”
Are no better than the detestations that we make
These lovers out to be.
Because we make the conscious decision to hate them for loving one another.
And we allow that hate to drive a separation between God’s children.
The same God who teaches us all to Love one another as He loves us.
But being Good Christians,
We ignore our beliefs because our beliefs don’t align with their beliefs.
We ignore our beliefs that tell us that
It’s not our job to be judge of who can love who on what level
Just to uphold the belief that homosexuality is a sin.
So that we can continue to alienate, ridicule, and debase the gays.
So that we don’t have to accept them.
So that we don’t have to accept that
Right or wrong, they’re children of God just like we are.
This is wrong.
WE are wrong.
We must love them keep in mind that
Only God can Judge them.
And at the end of the day, there is no difference between us and them because
ALL LOVE IS GOOD LOVE.
We have to stop trying to place a label on Love.
For it is too vast for our shallow distinctions.
We have to stop trying to place a set of rules on Love.
For it is too powerful to be limited.
We have to stop admonishing those who don’t Love like we do.
Because if we look beneath the surface, we’ll see their love isn’t as different
As ours.
That’s it.
I’m done Venting for now.
