Rape Can Inspire
I’m gonna drop the “r” word
That’s right;
rape.
The raw word itself
Unfiltered, unshaped.
Something that deteriorates,
Something that scars.
Something that haunts you at night,
That makes you feel behind bars.
A prisoner in your mind,
A thought that lights you on fire.
But though it is scary,
Rape can inspire.
“How?” you may ask
“Can such a thing inspire?”
“How is it positive?” you may inquire
#Metoo, #TimesUp,
Hashtags like these have internationally blown up
Women sharing their stories, bonding with each other
Mothers and daughters, sisters and brothers.
These movements create buzz
Create conversation and thought
They relieve women of their fears and fraught.
But there’s little things, also
That seek to inspire
There’s people like me
To make an impact, I aspire
A website created
To help out all
To connect with survivors
To aid them when they feel small.
They told me I helped them
Said the site was like no other
That I inspired them to tell their mothers and brothers
So, I say again,
Rape can inspire.
And even though I was raped,
To help all, I aspire.
