Rape Culture

Why should I be afraid

to walk down an ally at night?

Strolling along a city street

Is just a basic right,

Why should I be scared

To show a little skin?

Wearing a low cut top

Is not exactly a sin,

Why should I be worried

when I’ve had a bit to drink?

I should not have to be afraid

Of what other people think,

Why do you get to tell me

What I can and cannot do?

Instead of changing what I wear,

Change the worlds view

As far as progress is concerned,

We’ve still got a ways to go,

Before you tell me not to drink,

Tell rapists “no” means no

MVP-Most Valuable Poet

i respect your perspective on your poem

if you don't mind, i would like to dissect this piece

a woman should wear what she wants-it's all about presentation and perception on how a woman carries herself

regarding rape, you exactly right no means no

when i 1st saw the title rape culture, i always believe that cultures is about what you celebrate, your traditions, your background,  your country,etc............

with rape, there's nothing to celebrate or embrace

is it really a culture? for me, absolutely not

have you ever recited this poem before?
