Rapunzel: A Modern Fairytale

Once upon a time, in a far away land,

There lived a princess in a tower so grand.

Her name was Rapunzel, what a beauty was she,

With long golden locks that had waves like the sea.

Her hair was so long it filled up the room,

Perhaps a mile in length with a sweet-smelling fume.

She was just like all the other teenage girls,

With a face full of makeup and her hair in curls.

She spent all her time on her phone texting friends,

Talking about boys and all the newest trends.

Although Rapunzel seemed like a normal dame,

She had a dark past that was filled with pain.

As a baby Rapunzel was happy, with a smile a gleam.

She was loved by her father, the king, and her mother, the queen.

Then one night as the royals slept in their bed,

An evil old woman snatched Rapunzel and fled.

She fled to a tower, one that no one could find,

Hidden deep in the woods, behind branches all twined.

For years the king searched for his missing little  girl.

After looking for so long their hope began to unfurl.

Little did they know, she was locked in a tower,

With the woman raising her, as her own little flower.

Sixteen years passed and Rapunzel did grow,

With eyes so bright and hair a golden glow.

As a typical teenager, she of course had a 'tude,

Saying "Go away mom" and sometimes being rude.

She blocked out life, with her eyes glued to her phone.

Texting her friends about fake girls and saying their name with a moan.

She loved using her Bitmoji, cause it looked just like her,

With big eyes and saying phrases like "ok sure".

Being locked away caused boredom, so she tried to pass time,

By reading Tigerbeat, tweeting, and constantly making slime.

She occasionally watched movies, especially  ones with cute boys.

She spun her fidget spinner, as it was the hottest new toy.

She even sometimes dyed her long, long hair;

Mermaid colors, unicorn, or something with a flare.

She checked her social media: Insta, Twitter, and Snap,

Adding pics to her story, and viewing SnapMap.

Then one day she was notified that she was tagged in a pic,

Of a little lost princess, then something inside clicked.

She felt a connection to the picture of the child, Though it was dated 16 years, and not viewed in a while.

One day a boy about seventeen or so,

Stumbled upon the tower and saw a glow.

In a small window he saw light shine upon Rapunzel's hair,

He called out "hello, is anyone there?"

Rapunzel looked out and saw the cute lad.

She said "Hi, I'm up here. And boy am I glad".

"My name is Rapunzel and I've been locked here for years,

My mom makes me stay, and I'm bored to tears.

I want to leave, but I just don't know how.

There's no way out, but I need to escape now"

"I'll help you out" said the boy with hope.

"Use your hair to climb down as if it were rope".

So Rapunzel climbed down, and met the boy at the base.

She thought to herself "my, what a cute face".

"How did you find me?" She asked with a stare.

He said "I was searching for Pokémon, for one that was rare".

"I followed it here, and saw the sun shine on your locks,

So I called up to see if anything lied beyond these rocks.

Now that I've met you, to be honest, you're cute,

Do you have a Snapchat? You seem astute".

"I think you're cute too" she said with a smile.

Take a pic of my snap code and we'll chat for a while.

First tell me this, what of this princess do you know

This girl who went missing sixteen years ago."

"Oh that's the lost princess" said the boy oh so sad.

"She was kidnapped and taken from her mom and her dad.

The king searched for years but he never did find,

His special daughter, the girl who was kind.

He hasn't given up, because he hopes that one day,

His daughter will come home, for forever to stay"

"I saw this picture" said Rapunzel with wonder.

"And felt a connection, and what I knew torn asunder.

I looked at this baby and I started to see,

She has bright eyes and golden hair, ones just like me.

"I must meet the king, to see if what I believe is true

If I am the lost princess, despite what I've been through".

So the two called an Uber, and drove into town,

To the King's Castle, to see if Rapunzel fit the crown.

They entered and asked for the king and the queen

They sat in silence, while waiting to be seen.

The king and queen gracefully entered to room.

They had bright smiles, though faces filled with gloom.

Rapunzel looked at them and they looked back at her,

They saw a gleam in her eyes, and memories stirred.

"Rapunzel is that you?"  The king asked unsure.

"My beautiful little girl with a heart so pure".

"It is me father" Rapunzel said with a smile.

"I've changed and grown since I've been gone for a while".

"I believe it's you" said the king "but just to be sure,"

I must use my phone app so that I can concur".

So the king unlocked his phone and opened his app,

Then took a selfie with Rapunzel to see if he was her pap.

The app scanned their faces to see if there was a match.

Then a beeping sound rung with a message attached.

It read "100% Family" and the King started to grin.

"My daughter it is you, but where have you been?

I'm glad you are home and back where you belong.

We have much to discuss since you've been away for so long".

And so Rapunzel, the princess now found,

Rejoined her family, and again wore her crown.

As for the boy who had helped Rapunzel return,

The two "talked" for a while and love soon churned.

After college and jobs, the two soon married,

And their love strengthened the bond that they carried.

They adopted a dog and soon after a cat,

And lived happily ever after, or something like that.
