Rational Crash
Hello my friends. This essay will go over through the most amazing feeling that you can ever face in your entire life. This feeling is “rational crash.”
Sometimes in our lives, we develop behaviors that become part of our daily routine. Without noticing, these behaviors can affect people in a way that we do not expect because we think it is normal. This feeling shows up when a person is assertive with you. Being assertive means express what you feel without aggressiveness nor passiveness.
The best way I can show you how a rational crash brings out the best of you is through my own experience:
Several months ago, I had a crush on someone. When I met her, she called my attention quick because of the unique qualities I saw, but I made a big mistake unintentionally since I was not aware of my behavior.
At the beginning, we started to talk normal as friends do. The problem is that when you like someone you want to see that person all the time (maybe this does not apply to you). I thought this behavior was normal for a long time until she told me one day, “You cannot follow me everywhere I go!”
Right at that moment, I felt astonished since I didn’t expect that and start feeling bad first because I knew it was wrong and second because this was not the first time I behaved like this. Can you see why it is the best feeling?
The story does not end here. After you realize you did something wrong, the next step is to apologize, one of the most difficult tasks that you may encounter. After the crash, I did not apologize right away because as I told you, I was astonished and the only thing I could do was walk away.
Several weeks passed. Through this time, I did not see her until one Monday, but when I saw her again the feeling of the crash came immediately since the wound was still open. Of course, she could also see me, but she still had the idea that I was following her. At the end, on the next day I had enough courage to approach and apologize for what I did. This is what I said: “I really sorry from the bottom of my heart, it was not my intention to follow you, can we be friends again?” We shook hands after, closing the wound finally.
The point here is that a rational crash can change a person by creating awareness right away, letting that person know that his/her actions are wrong. Furthermore, we develop the responsibility of forgiveness and, as I saw in a conference, forgiveness can heal a nation.
The objective for this week and beyond is to appreciate when we experience a rational crash since it makes us change, eliminate, and enhance bad habits. After all, it is what makes us humans despite of what we have.
