Rats

Is that a bird chirping

Or that a rat squeaking

Is this my new body

Or will it start healing

The sink has been broken

Wash our hands in the shower

Being ugly won’t help

he wants sex for power

I got a new vacuum

It’s crawling with bugs

How long will it be

Until I enjoy hugs

The handle just broke

popped off of the dryer

Said he’ll burn this place down

Will I die in the fire

Mommy hug me

Mommy come cuddle

Mommy shutters

This whole world is muddled

I don’t want to be touched

I cannot give love

I’m scared cause I’m angry

Im angry from shoves

How many doors

And how many screams

If I’d get some real rest

I’d escape in my dreams

Wash the table again

Hardened food cuts my hands

Broken plate in the sink

Cleaned and cut it again

The ceiling shows cracks

Will water get in

There’s wasps in the lights

There’s light in my kin

Sew costumes in the dark

Make new toys out of trash

Don’t make daddy mad

I don’t want this to last

You’ve taken my light

My body my mind

I can protect them forever

Long as I’m not blind

But I need to leave

Before he breaks them too

But leaving with nothing

Is a hard thing to do .

Is that a bird chirping

Or that a rat squeaking

Is this my new body

Or will it start healing

The sink has been broken

Wash our hands in the shower

Being ugly won’t help

he wants sex for power
