Reaching the End

Once inside there is no turning back.

The dim light illuminates the little there is ahead.

As I run, the ceiling nears ever closer,

Threatening to crush me.

The light fades,

My flashlight dead.

I pause to gulp a breath of air.

The silence becomes apparent.

I am finally alone.

Free.

After regaining me breath, I continue ever onward.

I know I must reach the truth,

Although I fear what it may bring.

As the roof lowers, I begin to crawl.

I glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel.

I am reminded of my journey,

Of the agonizing hardships endured,

Of the blood, sweat, and tears,

Of the joyful moments of carefree childhood,

Of smiles, jokes, and laughter.

Blinding light burns my corneas.

I push myself trough the last foot.

When I reach the end,

There is nothing.

Just dark, cold emptiness.
