Reaching for the Light

staring at my ceiling fan

in the wee hours of night

I see the shadows dancing

as if reaching for the speed of light

even though

they'll never reach it

and we'll all laugh and stare

god, will they try

it's more than we could compare

watching for the next opportunity

wanting all that there is to have

maybe I should try

but then again

I'd rather die

I'm just one of those dancing shadows

reaching for the light
