Reaching Maturity

I have always been the

Shy, quiet, antisocial, musical girl

In a school of extremely social somebodies.

Senior year has flipped my switch

Making me realize how much I have grown.

And how much we had all grown in general.

Every one of us

Walking across that stage

Making graduating official

We have achieved so much.

Choosing a new path,

Separate from any other.

Learning from each other

Expanding our own world

I had to learn to survive without those before me

And to teach the ones who will replace me

Force myself to make important decisions

To be social

To help those around me improve too

I became the leader of my trumpet section

Being the one they would go to in need

After years of following one person

Big shoes I could have filled

But I did it my own way

And that worked for me

I’ve been a follower for so long

And was gifted the responsibility of a leader

I had to endure these changes

But I held strong

Fear could not stay in control

No matter how much it pushed me down

I pull myself back up

I worked my way around

All these new and difficult paths

Learning from these past years

And developing the skills to push forward

With everything the world throws at me

I improve upon it each day
