The Real Hero

I’ve bet you’ve had one of those days

Where you wish for a hero to take you away

Just for a day

So you could hide from the darkness and pain

And return home when there is no more rain

It may only be once in awhile for you

But for me the sky is always a dark hue

Every morning when I arise

Chains surround me where I lie

As I shoulder the tangle for the day

And put on a mask over what’s left

I hope my heart is strong enough to stay

So I walk through my life

Dragging the chains along

Crawling through the strife

The fake laughs and smiles feel so wrong

Is this how it’s supposed to be?

Hiding away so no one can see

Then I finally snapped

Unable to fix the cracks

They grew and grew into massive gaps

There my true feelings could squeeze out

And as they began to shout

Over all my fears and doubts

I felt such a relief

And realized the chains were the thief

They took away who I could have been

What I could have done

They stole away my grin

And all of my fun

I stood and let it all fall away

All this things connecting me to the grey

The pain and the misery I had to endure

Now seemed so obscure

Now I fight the darkness with an iron fist

And see right through the depressing mist

Like any war, there are battles that are lost

And days that leave me feeling squashed

But when I get near the very thin line

I smile and take back what is mine

My happiness, my light, my life

I take it right back and make my own design

Cause this is my story, my heart, my path

And I decide when to take next step

I don’t what your pity

I don’t want your charity

That's not why I’m here

I just want you to see the hidden tears and fears

Chains can hold people in the depths

While they keep it all veiled from our breaths

The chains that once held me down

Could be like the ones your neighbor drags now

Please don’t leave alone them to die

Be the hero in their lives

Take them away

Even if  it’s just for a day

Return them home when there is no more rain

It may not seem big to you

But that little bit of love will see them through

Until they can find out the truth

And live under these skies of blue

Even if they don’t come back to thank you

Know that the real hero… is you.
