The Real Love

Because I love you…
This simple phrase has been twisted in so many ways.
When we hear these words, it draws us to a place we don’t like
One where the person who says these words makes us say no to friends
Where they draw us to situations we don’t like
Where they threaten to never love us again
Where they think that those words are enough to make the sting of the control go away.
I mean, they still love us right?
Wrong.
Control and love can not coexist
Fear and love cannot be in the same relationship
So how do we fix this?
Change what the words love mean to you.

Because I love you…
I’m going to trust you
I’m going to trust that you will love me back
I’m not going to control you

Because I love you…
You can go see your friends
They make you happy
We can hang out another time

Because I love you…
I won’t let anyone hurt you
I’m always going to be a shoulder to cry on
I won’t be the one to hold you back

Because I love you…
I’m willing to lose you
If it means keeping you happy
I’ll sacrifice whatever I need to you

Because I love you…
This simple phrase can mean so much more
If we are able to use it properly
