The Real Me
Dreams and hopes
Riding upon my shoulders
Stress of perfection
Feeding all my fears
My dreams are great
Big perfect futures
Of engineering tomorrow
And maybe just maybe
A chance that I'll make it
The harshest criticism
Unable to compare
Simply my own
This burden I bear
I try as I might
To succeed where they fall
And grasp at the end
Yet fail to prevail
I am a poor soul
Doomed to work hard
Only to what reward
Am I given
For my efforts
The real me
You ask for my truth
Here is my story
Of time honored youth
For I criticise my masterpiece
And shred my life's work
I never am content
With what I have done
A typical student
No different from the rest
Yet there is a pain
That wells deep in my chest
For I can not be
Second to best
