The Real Me

The real me is a helping hand,

the person who doesn’t even giggle

when others are dying of laughter.

The person who genuinely,

gives a kid a quarter for the gumball machine.

Most people don’t see the real me.

They see this barrier I’ve set up.

They only see the rapacious smart mouther,

the girl who doesn’t entertain your ignorance,

but is sometimes mistaken for being stuck-up.

The real me is

shedding a few tears when no one is looking.

The person who drowns in thoughts of the years before,

but also the one who can walk on thin air

and be at peace with the people in my presence.

The girl who spends endless hours on YouTube

searching the most flawless make-up tutorials.

Trying to hide myself behind the MAC

but only when I want them to see a different me.

The real me is a warm soul, without filters.
