The Real Me

The man in the mirror, I  ask, what are you? Seriously. Born dead, didn't even cry. Could feel the pain of my momma inside. Dear Lord I asked you, Why! Was I born to feel this way, like I'm the only one people hate. Had it harder than my brothers and harder than any others, that little kid that had to go through the struggle. For the next 17 years, everyday, I cried. Every day had to see the pain in my momma's eyes. A million holes, had me looking up at the sky. Uncle died, every day, I cried. Hit his head in the shower. At least that's what the jail said. First it was Pat, then it was Red, next it was David, Bishop came next, then came Johnny, had to tell them all...See you later. Grandpa gone, wish he wasn't. He never did me wrong. Helped protect us from the rain. Rita and Katrina, I never been the same. Ever since then, I been afraid of the rain. Tornado fears...oh dear, oh dear. M.J. and F.K. and LG, they all made me change. Picked on by kids, Lord I ask you, where were my true friends? First Hailey, Sckye. I still ask my self why. The kid fell in love but I guess he was to shy. Bipolar disorder? Maybe. The other me, fighting every day, he went crazy. Kids like that, hated by many. Were they loved by any. Now he's scared. Trayvon and Michael. Shot. Murdered. Straight up. Dead. Heart pounding. He a live wire. 1 fight, he was out like the lights, 2 fights, put his nose a little to the right, 3 fights, he gave it all his, 4...he ran him out the door, at 5, young man was ready to die. Knocked his nose to the left and teeth to the right, if they wouldn't have grabbed him, he would've put him out for the night. Saw the drug sells during school, I stayed away, momma and daddy didn't raise no fool. Party time! It ain't my scene. Social pessimist. Call him what you want. Now he's learned to control his anger and stand tall in the face of danger. New head man in charge. Replace the one in the office. Now he is me. I've found hope on a field. Years after losing him he once again found his best friend. On a field of white and plenty of green. Wait one second, something happened again. A minor set back for a major come back. Now everyone missing him. Telling him shake back, come on, shake back. Please come back!

Now the man in the mirror then broke out the box. Now everyone prepare for the rain. They've let the dog off the chain.

And now, though I still cry, a saved and blessed soul, this guy will never die.
