like real people do

i pretend to know what to do

how to act

what to say

how to think

when really

every decision is impossible

every action takes a thousand pokes and prods with a red-hot cattle brand

every word is ripped from my tongue by a million horned fingers

every thought is sluggish and slow, poured from my mind like the thickest of honeys

slow and steady wins the race isn't that what they say?

but i'm not so sure that life is a race anymore

- like real people do
