The Real World

Location

Teachers always say “This will prepare you for the real world”

What does that even mean? Aren’t we already in the real world?

Is what I experience day after day somehow not real until I turn a certain age?

But who teaches me how to pay a bill or buy a house?

Or how to date or raise a family?

The real world is 41% divorced and 3.5 million homeless.

The real world is 33% obese and 42% unemployed.

Who teaches me how to deal with that?

The real world is tragedy. The real world is now.

Teachers live in the real world

They run households, raise families, and deal with the same stuff

The real world is cruel… yet where are the answers?

Who teaches me how to get a job or buy a car?

My teachers don’t.

The real world is tragedy. The real world is now.

Aren’t these big factors that play into “the real world”?

How come schools don’t prepare us for the tragedy in life?

We ARE IN the real world, so teach me something worth while

Wasn’t 12 years of education supposed to prepare us for this?

Because the real world is tragedy. The real world is now.
