The Reality Behind What Seems to Be
What they see is an illusion of perfection,
a girl striving for the world's affection.
Conforming to the fads and fashions,
carefully selecting every little action.
What they don't see is that beneath all that,
is a heart of gold as fragile as glass.
A sensitivity that seems to become lost,
in the proclivity of the culture to emboss.
In striving to uphold my beliefs,
I'm judged, glanced at, and seeking relief.
The choices that others make just go to show,
that what I hold to be true is a good thing to know.
I know who I am,
I know where I belong.
I know that I don't need,
to be affirmed to be strong.
