Realizatiion
Anger rattles through me as I step outside.
His carelessness ignites the blaze and feelings of worthlessness stoke it
Engulfing my entire being in burning flames.
The emerald grass beckons to me, the slow breeze ruffles my hair.
My bare feet, as if on their own accord,
Shuffle onto the cool soft blades and
My temper cools, slightly.
I gaze upwards and the pale blue sky peeks back at me,
Hiding behind the cotton-like clouds.
I don’t think he’ll understand, he won’t make it better.
I tell of the careless man’s actions, of his stupidity and hurtful nature.
Paul looks at me, taking in my tearing eyes,
My running nose, my shaking body.
I don’t cry from pain or sadness
But from the inferno raging through my heart.
A car passes as he looks at me.
“He doesn’t deserve you,” he says gently;
The flame dances in a light mist.
“He should be jealous…” he begins softly;
The flame is weakened by a spring shower,
“Because I get to see the woman you’re becoming, and he is missing
Every moment.”
A waterfall crashes over the blaze,
Drowning it forcefully and calming the hurt.
Merely a pile,
A dark pile of smoldering ash,
Remains.
But from that smoldering pile,
A flaming crimson and golden flower
Blooms.
He nurtures this newborn creature,
Tentatively supporting and protecting it.
When things are bad,
I look to him.
Though he is not my creator,
He is my father and savior.
He is my motivator, cheerleader, and protector.
Above all else
He is
My Paul.
