Realizations
It’s funny how we all
Have the same emotions:
Sad, happy, angry surprised,
And yet we still live our life
Day to day
Thinking that we are completely
And utterly
Alone.
We think that the world
Trapped inside our cavernous minds
Is dark, strange,
And should remain hidden.
But we ignore the fact
That when you open a window
Into a dark room,
It is light that jumps forth
To fill the blackness.
This life has taught us that
Our bodies are canvases.
Not just for art, but
For injecting
Breaking
Hiding
Faking.
We try so hard to be as perfect
As the faces created by
A man behind a computer.
Then, we fail to realize that
When we wash the chemicals
Off of our screaming skin,
The canvas had actually been finished
a long time ago
and deserves to be left
untouched.
We have been taught that
We are weeds.
We deserve to be torn
From the ground,
Torn from our friends,
Torn from our happiness.
But
Are we really weeds?
Or are we actually growing,
Prospering flowers that
Have once again been misled
Into thinking that perfection
Is the only form of beauty?
We think that we are the only ones
Dealing with demons.
We think that our problems
Are catastrophic,
Simply debilitating,
And naturally, isolating.
But
If we opened our minds
For just a tenth of a second,
We might realize that
Everybody has a problem.
It’s time that we teach ourselves to
understand
That our peers think that
Their dark minds can’t reflect light,
Our neighbors think that they
Are weeds in a stretch of buttercups,
And our families think that
Their bodies should match the
Creation printed on a magazine cover.
Honestly,
We’re all stuck in the same sea of lies
And we’re all in the same boat.
So, I’m asking you
To lift up your head
And blink away your tears.
Take a look around and
You will find that
I’m here,
Your friends are here too,
And maybe you will see
That after all this time battling
The monsters in your mind,
It seems that they were simply
Figments of a misled
Imagination,
And none of us are
Actually alone
After all.
