Is This Really Me?
I stare into the mirror, half-heartedly content with what I see,
My hair is awry, my tooth is crooked, and my nose is sporting a zit as large as a bumble-bee,
No more time to lose, I have to get the class;
I wonder what people think of me as I pass,
I feel their eyes upon me, snapping up from my soles to my head,
Sometimes I wish I could be Jessica Alba instead.
I head on home and try different hair-do’s and outfits on,
All of them look revolting; there is something very wrong…with me.
I slop make-up on to conceal myself from the world,
At work I see that attractive boy flirt with that gorgeous girl.
At last I wake up from the horrible dream that used to be,
Because that girl with no hope, no security used to be…me
Today, I go to class, then work, standing up straight and tall,
I smile at everyone realizing how beautiful we all are.
I glance into the mirror and what do I see?
A unique and special human-being that has won the battle against insecurity.
