The Reaper

Is it not wrong, brother

That you should take the life of another?

How then, do you justify that feeling

As your finger moves and your ears begin ringing?

Bullets pierce the night

But you simply leave the hide and take flight.

You did not volunteer for this

You were simply given a rifle and told not to miss.

Because of you, brother, I am able to sleep

For your sacrifice my feet walk on free streets.

You have taken the breath of life from many

So that we may live in the land of plenty.

As that flag waves proudly at day

Surely I shall stand in praise.

Of the Reaper to whom I thank

For my freedoms he takes rank.
