REASON
We needed a reason
One to let her live
Salty moist dripped from her skin
The scorching sun burning us all
Yet we stood, staring at her
Burn the witch! we screamed
Even though our hearts pounded in fear
Our reason did not come
Our hearts were left in fear
Fear of what she might do if we let her live
Fear of what might happen if we did not find a reason
I had a reason
One to let her live
She carried me as a baby
Wiped my tears when I cried
I could not let this befall my mother
For I owed her that much, even more
I stood up
I gave them a reason
One to let her live
I am the witch! I shrilled
All eyes turned to me
Their eyes looked relieved
For they had found a reason
One to let her live!
