The Reason I Stare

I sit on a bench in the middle of night. My eyes are slowly shutting. One may ask, "why put up the fight?" And I'll tell them, "the stars are simply stunning." I gaze into the speckled black void Seeing hunters and lions alike. A rocky dragon streaks past: a meteoroid I sit battle ready, my telescope a pike Look at the innumerable stars Each could have it's own planet. Look there I think I see Mars It could support human life, can't it? There are gas giants and atmospheres of helium. Light bounces off their surfaces to Earth It travels through infinite space, which is the medium. It travels here. Home, the place of our birth. While I sit here watching for many an hour, I contemplate the universe and all its power It is what inspires me, this I'll declare It is the reason I sit here and stare.
