The Reason I Wake Up
The reason I wake up
Funny as it may seem,
Used to be you
The stupid smile on my face
Like a deer in headlights
Completely unaware
Yes, I remember the days quite well,
You did the breaking
The shattering of my world
Broken pieces that once resembled a life
And so you became the reason I stayed asleep
The ache in my heart,
The voices in my head
And for so long I thought it was me
But winter turned to spring
And I began to see the silver lining
The light at the end of the tunnel
That I followed with a flashlight and little will
Now you’re no more than a memory
A thought that crossed my mind once upon a time
Now I know better than to let you be
The reason I wake up
