reasons towels cry

Hey look, it’s you again

covered in chlorine and sweat again

huffing and puffing red-faced again

come here for just a moment

let me hold you for just a moment

clear your eyes of sweat and tears for just a moment

tell me what happened—I’m listening

as you ignore me for you real friends, I’m listening

to your slowly steadying heartbeat I’m listening

I’ll absorb the residue of your pain because I love you

you can throw me to the floor because I love you

sling wring and step all over me because I love you

I send you back to the world matte and dry

you're happier after I pat you dry

you send me back to the rack to dry

remember when you dropped me in that pool?

I didn't stand a chance against that pool

I absorbed nothing from that pool

You pulled me out, and I was sopping

you wrung me out—still sopping

you threw me aside; I hadn’t stopped sopping

I was no good to you that night

failing you felt like a darker night

you ignored me when I said goodnight

The air doesn't dry me like I dry you

pain doesn’t roll off me like pain rolls off you

I’m cold now, but I’ll be cold for you

It’s okay, I exist only to be used

I’m here for you, I want to be used

a little more time to dry so I can be used

Hey look, it’s you again

look at me, I’m dry again

Lets you and I try this again
