Reckless Youth

When I was young, I used to have a friend.

Her name used to mean fun and play.

My parents warned me to stay away from her;

I didn’t listen.

As time passed she hurt me,

She made my skin sore and painful,

The pain lasted for days.

Sometimes she would even make me take my clothes off.

When I couldn’t trust her anymore I found a new friend.

He healed me

His presence numbed the pain

He allowed me to be trusting once more.

With the help of sunscreen, I could face the sun again.
