Recuerda
Dear Self,
I love you. I know I don’t say it or even act like it nearly enough. But it’s true I do. You are me. I am you. We could be a force to be reckoned with if we wanted to be. Sticks and stones have in fact broken our bones. And words have shattered us. Words from those who barely knew us. Words from those who merely wanted to use us. Words from those who were supposed to love us. But despite words that have challenged what we thought we were worth and everything we ever worked for, we are here.
Dear Self,
Everything you have been through should have turned you cold and bitter. But day after day you somehow suppress your words, your feelings. You don’t let your anger and sadness consume you and kill every good thing inside of you. Instead you continuously pour yourself into everyone around you, not even stopping when it feels as though you are cracked. Dry. Empty . Day after day you make your darkness into something light, something beautiful. Sounds that should echo your pain are magically made into the sweet song of your testimony. These are only a few of the reasons why you are someone who deserves simply be. As much as you hate it, you know that you must continue to be and live now so that you may one day share your song with others who may be looking for inspiration to sing.
Dear Self,
Even on days when I don’t say it. On days when it feels like no one else does. Please please remember I love you. I swear I do.
With All of My Love,
Krista
