RED
You stand there, ready, alert.
Gears locked in, helmet put on fast.
The red dirt engraved with tire treads left from riders long past.
Hands collide on the bar,
ready to steer me away.
The door and key to my heart is simply left there,
Ajar.
Like an eagle, I shall soar through these woods,
carving each and every turn I take
Feeling the terrain below me subside
To the force of nature I create.
With the wind on my back,
a gentle force billows around me
and through the leaves,
freeing strands of hair to dance on my face
to the melody of the song the wind carries.
My heart knows of what awaits on these trails,
And is ready.
My tires yearn to move, my legs crave to go.
A pace, so steady
That the power of my momentum
Could never push me down.
The heat of the trail summons the gnats and mosquitoes to surround me
Like thoughts that I wish to leave behind
But the thoughts that linger, they’re thrown away
For the trail requires peace of mind.
No Mercy Here
A warning sign should say
To warn those who can't handle the challenge,
Let them be sent away.
Some cannot bear the amount of freedom that these trails here offer.
One can get lost if given too much range to roam.
This leaves left, only the lonely
And the brave.
The warriors, the adventurers,
The risk takers.
Oh yes, they will stay.
For they have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
The trails may be simply made of just wood and dirt,
but it offers those solace in their times of dismay.
