Red

Red is the color of the sky of a new dawn approaching

Red is the color of the peaceful fields immersed in sunrise before the bloodshed starts

Red is the color of the quilt a mother made for her child to keep her safe from the war

The color of the apple that is a soldier’s last meal

The color of a heart that spills its blood to protect others

The color that pulses through a child’s eyes as she awakes from a nightmare that is real

Red is the color that has saturated the carefully plowed fields

Red is the color that is shed in order to win

Red is the color that adorns the flag that was fought for

Is the color of the dusk approaching
