red flags

I was born with a pair of glasses

That made the world seem mellow

Not blue-colored or green

Nor brown

Or yellow

It was a world where rattlesnakes

chirped like birds

and hurricanes felt like gentle sea breezes

Insults were misunderstandings

and "I love you" cured diseases

Where obsession was a compliment

and talking to my friends meant

breaking the pact that we made

ireedemable, disgusting and hellbent

I should have seen it coming

I should have spotted the clues

When snakes coiled at my feet

And my heart was missing a fuse

My head said I should go

But my chest said I'm alone

Because real love didn't need

to be in captivity to grow

If your glasses are like mine

Now is the time to act

When you see through rose-colored glasses

All the red flags

Look like flags
