Red Lights
I wish I didn't stop singing
When my car stopped at red lights,
And I wish I had told that woman buying flowers at the grocery store
That her eyes looked like autumn.
I wish I looked at the world around me.
The leaves are painting themselves brilliant shades of red and orange and yellow,
Birds are singing songs that we will never understand,
And floating in the sky is an incandescent ball of gas that is sustaining life on our planet and shedding light through the trees to cast brilliant shadows onto your skin.
Why do see such extraordinary things with such ordinary eyes?
It’s all magic.
And some humans have the audacity to believe that they know how this beautiful coincidence of life on earth works
When a magician never reveals his secrets.
