A Red Little Album
A red little album, that's all it really is.
Created by a friend as a going away gift.
To someone else, it's a ratty old thing,
But to me it's a darling storybook dream.
If you peek in, you will see,
A young me, a laughing me, and a happy me.
Full of dreams and life, surrounded by friends who shared their all.
They were there for me at my very call.
But life went on, each one taking their own path,
Yet somehow I ended up lost in the aftermath.
Forever grateful they aren't set with a fate like mine,
To wander and to want, cut off from my own kind.
Yet even though I have no clear set way,
I keep on walking towards better days.
And in the dark times when I feel that of good I'm bereft,
I pull out the album of the memories I have left.
They remind me of what I was and what can be ahead,
That dreams never disappear even when they're left for dead.
Just a quick look and my heart is beating the song
That warbles of happy times and the moments that will come
My friend gave me this album, but I don't think they knew it's meaning,
That pictures of old loved ones would bring hope to my being.
Not something to live without, today or years later,
This ratty old album is a thing of priceless treasure.
