[red pens]

Dear Teachers,

I absolutely…hate red pens

With their blood red color

And harsh red glare

As they run across my paper

Whispering “error”

And it’s unfair.

Where is it required?

Is there some kind of rule?

For teachers everywhere

To mark papers with red in school?

When editing an essay

I always use purple

Or maybe even blue.

Red? Honestly just with the heck is wrong with you?!

Sorry…

Anyway, red pens just ruin lives

I’m pretty sure they live for setting failure

It’s what makes them thrive

When you look at blue

You’re optimistic and at ease

But red includes the following:

-       Pain

-       Distress

-       Even weird failure disease

Let’s not forget the fact that red is sharp.

A pain to the eyes

Too much and you’ll cry…

Honestly teachers,

You think we’re wrong to complain?

I mean it’s technically not your fault,

You’re not all to blame.

But it’s those little red pens,

Those little works of the devil,

That are the real pain and the real trouble.

So hear our plea and change your pens

To any other color beside those awful reds.

Please save us from the distress.

Sincerely,

All your students
